I watch The Daily Show every night to blow off steam, and usually these days it’s a sad picture that gets painted every night. I was watching and Red Tails the movie came up, which I have followed for some time now. I have wanted to become a fighter pilot since I was a small child, and really, I wanted to become a pilot in the prop-era-dog style of war that is long past us now. One of my heroes I look up to in that space, are the Tuskegee Airmen.

Their performance in the war has always to me, been a huge success. I often met references to their group in many of my explorations of world war II era flight. What pains me, is the reality Lucas states in his segment about the ability to show a movie like this, and how unnoticed this group of aviators has been to the public. I am not a fan of making every war story into a movie, but of all the stories we have turned into movies so far, it feels almost criminal that the feats of this group were left untouched. The struggles that were fought in this group are simply amazing, and the professionalism, and honor these men served is truly awe-inspiring. There are plenty of unsung heroes in any war, but this group accomplished their mission, survived the racism and hatred from enemies both foreign and domestic.
I look forward to the movie coming out, but more importantly, I am happy this group will finally get some attention for their efforts. Unfortunately most of the crews will not have survived to hear their story told.

This has been on my bucket list for a long time, to go do one of the long off road races, possible alternative could be the Baja 1000. There is a huge thrill in going fast, and coming up to a ridge at full speed on a bike, to then feel the weightlessness as the ground is no longer under you, only to land and continue on running the machine at 100% is just a huge thrill. I agree with the quote from Dust to Glory – “It is a continuous plane crash”
To check out a great documentary on the Baja race, watch the trailer below, and here is the IMDB link:

I normally am not to promote violence, but if someone pulled a gun on me, the first reaction would be to fight or flight, given I am on a motorcycle, I would have flighted away from there. What bugs me even more is that there was a cop behind him that simply could have flashed the lights. This whole stop pretty much assumed that the motorcycle rider was going to resist arrest. All in all, this is wild.
