IMDB Elite Squad: The Enemy Within: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1555149/

I watched two movies this Friday, both foreign flicks from Brazil. Elite Squad, and Elite Squad: The Enemy Within. Both are incredibly violent gory depictions of the issues of drugs and the power struggles within Brazil. It is of note that this is a film that has similarities, but isn’t supposed to be a telling of real events blow for blow. Ultimately the first movie was the most gory of the two, displaying the worse side of gang killings and police brutality. It was a good movie though, and shows how Brazil can absolutely match step with Hollywood. I liked that this was an action movie, but one that worked its way to talk about the struggles from different perspectives of the people, highlighting structures of oppression within the society there. After-all, if there are no jobs in the slums, but selling weed can pay the bills and keep your grandmother fed, what options do you really have? Meanwhile rich privileged students finance the drug trade yet claim their hands are clean of the whole mess.

These movies are good, and worth watching, but keep in mind that they are violent, and not in the superficial SAW kind of way – everything seen in this movie has happened in real life, just different people. I really do like this ad, and I think it something we have been missing in the US. This is certainly not the first time we have had hardship, but in most instances we had a war, or presidential goal to land on the moon to pull us together as a nation, something to get our heads held up high and stop looking down. This is a good message that our president has missed, this sort of thing can get people unified and productive. There isn’t a easy fix described here, in fact, all it prescribes is hope, and pride.

Now GM didn’t need to spend my tax money to put that commercial out, but I can almost forgive them, because this was an ad for America as much as it was for Chrysler. Excellent marketing, and ultimately, I hope the surface message isn’t glossed over either.

This is a fairly poorly shot video, but it was the first try, and I am working to make the next recordings better. So far I have not been able to do much to fix the windshield since it is Lexan, but I will potentially replace it so videos can be more clearly shot. I also changed the mount so it is more stable and so I can include the speedometer. Hopefully in Portland the weather warms up and I can get some great videos out this Spring/Summer since I am planning on taking advanced riding courses + doing some track time.

I will admit, after playing World of Tanks the computer game (http://worldoftanks.com) – the idea of owning my own tank to drive to work with in downtown Portland Oregon has me pretty intrigued. I am pretty sure I would want an M36 Slugger – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M36_tank_destroyer
